The Barbados Statistical Service (BSS) has commenced another round of its Continuous Labour Force Sample Survey (CLFSS). As a result, the field officers from the department will be visiting households in several districts across the island, and to this end, the department is appealing to persons to actively participate in this exercise.
In St. Michael, they will survey the following districts: King Street, Chapman Street, Hunte’s Street, Baxter’s Road, Dash Gap, Hill Road, Waterhall Land, Niles Road, Bank Hall Cross Road, Flagstaff, Villa Road, Warner’s Gap, Storm Signal Road, Baycroft Road, Tweedside Road, Carrington Village, School Road, Westbury Road, Mighty Grynner Highway, Cave Hill, Hill View Close, Phillips Road and St. Stephen’s Hill Road.
In Christ Church, field officers will visit Lodge Road, Ashby Land, Durants Development, Ambrosia Close, Durants Terrace, Hart’s Gap, Hastings, St. Matthias, Upper Carter’s Road, Goodland Gardens and Enterprise.
The communities in St. Philip to be surveyed are: Emerald Park, Four Roads, St. Martins and Oldbury, while in St. George, field officers will be found in Walkers Terrace, Rock Hall Tenantry, and Rock Hall.
Field officers will also visit Orange Hill, Endeavour and Apes Hill in St. James; Millennium Heights, Warrens Terrace and Welches Heights in St. Thomas; Blackmans Development, McColitt Bridge, Horse Hill and Cotton Tower Road in St. Joseph, and The Whim, Greaves Road and Reservoir Road in St. Peter.
The CLFSS is the quarterly collection of current information on various labour force characteristics, as well as income and expenditure data, gathered from a sample of households across Barbados.
This information is then used to determine employment and unemployment levels in the island, coupled with the distribution of skills/professions in the different sectors of the economy; all of which leads to the provision of statistics for timely and necessary social and economic planning.
The BSS implores the public to take the necessary precautions when interacting with the personnel of the department, as they will be following the National COVID-19 protocols, specifically the wearing of masks, physical distancing and sanitising when in the field.
Additionally, the BSS’ guidelines for the conduct of household surveys also will be observed, with the official BSS identification card prominently displayed. The field officers will not be entering the homes of respondents.
The department wishes to express appreciation to all those who have previously cooperated in the completion of the surveys and to also remind persons that all information is kept in the strictest of confidence and handled in such a manner as to prevent recognition of any individual.
The Barbados Statistical Service relies on the cooperation of all household members who are to be included in the survey, and they are urged to provide all information requested when the field officer visits their home.
