Barbadians living overseas can win a trip back home to enjoy the We Gatherin’ festivities in 2020.

The We Gatherin’ 2020 Competition, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, is open to Barbadians at home and in the diaspora, as the ministry seeks to compile a database of first, second, third and fourth generation diasporic Barbadians.

To enter the online contest, persons will be required to register with the ministry at www.wegatherin.foreign.gov.bb, submit basic information such as their skills and interests, and invite other Barbadians to do the same. The three-step process is extremely simple, and can be done by individuals, or on behalf of friends or family.

Entrants must successfully get 10 or more persons to register with the ministry to win weekly prizes of staycations and vouchers to attractions and restaurants on island. Entrants, who successfully get 20 or more persons to register, will have the opportunity to win a trip to Barbados in 2020.

According to Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Trade, Sandra Husbands, Barbados has fewer than one million descendants living abroad.

However, she lamented that many second, third and fourth generation Barbadians have not connected with Barbados, and were not registered with a consulate or embassy in their country.

Minister Husbands stressed that Barbados needs its diaspora and wanted them to know, this island will always be home.  She called on persons at home to encourage Barbadians living abroad to register with the ministry and to enter the competition.

“Reaching second and third generations of Barbadians is imperative, as the first generation abroad is significantly older.  It is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ objective to reach the Barbadian diaspora so they could share in our journey of prosperity and transformation of our island home.

“We recognize that every single Barbadian living in Barbados knows exactly where those Barbadians are, because they are our children, our sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles, our neighbours, friends and people we went to school with. You know where to find them, so we are asking you to partner with us and help us locate those persons wherever they are,” she urged.

The We Gatherin’ 2020 Competition is open until November 29, 2019.
